Okay friends. Are we ready for Maymester? Has anyone found syllabus online or do we have to wait until tomorrow?

I e-mailed Tisha Pipes sometime ago and asked if there was anything that could be done ahead of time...basically the answer was "no". I think there will be 11 assignments...not sure of the magnitude.

I tried to access Blackboard yesterday to see if anything was posted and couldn't log on. Anyone else have that problem?

Course Name / Course Catalog Description
5685. Information Resources and Services in Culturally Diverse Communities. 3 hours. Seminar in information resources and services for ethnic cultural minorities. Issues in the provision of information services to ethnic cultural minority communities. Study of the needs and cultural milieu of these communities. Materials and methods for serving these groups.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Discuss in a critical manner information resources and services for minorities, including the effect of major phenomena present in American society.
Describe information resources and services for minorities from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
Describe and evaluate the different types of information resources and services for minorities available in American libraries in terms of the best bibliographical sources of information about ethnic minorities.

Course Expectations
Students will log in to WebCT to get acquainted with course materials and assignments. Frequent logins are necessary to complete the fast-paced course.
No tests or quizzes.

Major Assignments
Reference Questions (55%)
Students are required to read reference questions for each of the minority cultures. They are not to provide answers to the questions, but are to decide which sources are likely to contain the answers. The students will select the source where they think the answer will be found from one sources listed in the online bibliographies. The students will then post their answers in the appropriate Discussion Forum (RQ: African American, RQ: Cambodian American, etc.)
Annotated Bibliography (35%)
Students enrolled in SLIS 5685 will locate a total of seven (7) sources that are not included in the Course Bibliographies online or the required text books. (Students enrolled in SLIS 4685 will locate five (5).) These sources can be web sites, tape, film, books, etc. The students will annotate the sources then post their annotations to the appropriate discussion forum.

Class Participation (10%)
Students will post a greeting in the appropriate forum and respond to at least one other student's greeting.

No required text.

I printed everything out....new binder time! Started on the N.A. questions...so far okay, I think.....it's going to go fast! :-)
Yes.. This will definitely make the time fly! (assignments almost every night). I am enjoying reading the annotations so far (does that sound sick?!?)
No - doesn't sound sick...unless i am, too. I find myself wanting to dig for the answers - now that's SICK!

Anybody have a feel for the bibliography? It doesn't sound tooooo bad, but I'm afraid I'm missing something key.
the info hunts did this to us!!!!! argggg...but yeah its fun so far, but i already feelbehind some people have posted several assignments already!
i know...our classmates are like speedy gonzalez! im barely putting my binder together... assignments are neat..like a cross between info hunts and evals...no?! :-)

Yes we did!!!! Woo-hoo...When do the next classes start? We'll have to start a kiddie-lit share list. Does anyone know how to access those titles now? We can borrow and trade with each other?
